PPE Requirement:
All instructors and participants are required to wear PPE in the field. Participants should follow their agency's policy and at a minimum, MUST wear: pants, closed-toed boots and safety vest. Anyone needing PPE should reach out to Colorado LTAP at CLTAP@FrontRange.edu. Anyone without PPE will be dismissed for the day. No refunds will be given for failure to wear PPE.
Course Pre-requisite:
All participants are required to complete Colorado LTAP's Safety on the Job before attending Motor Grader training.
Course Description:
The Wheel (Front-end) Loader Operation class provides the tools needed in order to effectively learn how to become a proficient operator. Day 1 will consist of in-class training. Days 2 & 3 will be hands-on training exercises. (Please see PPE requirements above).
Learning Objectives:
- Demonstrate general equipment knowledge. This includes describing required personal protective equipment, locating machine specifications and capacity charts, identifying machine components, explaining instruments and gauges, and identifying controls and describing their functions.
- Perform pre‐use activities. This includes performing a walk‐around inspection, performing a pre‐use inspection using the Pre‐use Inspection Checklist, and recording any issues with the machine.
- Perform machine start up. This includes ensuring the area around the machine is clear, properly mounting the machine and making adjustments for operator comfort, starting and warming up the machine, performing all operational checks necessary to begin machine operations, and traveling in the machine.
- Perform basic operational tasks. This includes using various bucket positions, including level, carry, dump, and curl, digging, loading a truck, and loading other vessels.
- Perform machine shut down. This includes parking the machine, locking out the machine, stopping the engine, and safely dismounting the machine.
SAFETY ON THE JOB is a pre-requisite for all Colorado LTAP Heavy Equipment Operations classes (such as Motor Grader and Loader). Please be sure to complete this prior to the course or you will not be able to operate the equipment.

Registration Fee
The registration fee for this workshop is $50 per person for employees of government agencies and $75 per person for non-government agencies. Fee includes any class handouts and lunch. Registration can be paid online, or via invoice upon special request. Please contact cltap@frontrange.edu for questions.
Special Notes
In order to receive credit for this class, attendees must stay until the end when it is dismissed by the instructor and class certificates are awarded.
Cancellation Policy
Please be considerate of those on the waiting list, cancel early if necessary. A full refund will be made if you cancel no later than 3 business days prior to the training day; otherwise, you will forfeit the registration fee.
