Course Description:

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), sometimes referred to as drones, are multi-use aircraft controlled from a licensed operator on the ground.  The benefits of UAS are wide-ranging and impact nearly all aspects of transportation – replacing boots on the ground, increasing accuracy, speeding up high quality survey, mapping, and data collection, and providing access to hard-to-reach locations. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the meaning of “unmanned aircraft system”
  • Learn about different version of UAS systems and platforms
  • Understand aerodynamic that keep UAS in flight
  • Understand how UAS fits into the larger landscape of “autonomous aviation technologies”
  • Identify the types of drone operations for Local Agency use such as bridge, culvert, and high mast inspections, temporary traffic control, land slide areas, Traffic incident management and more
  • Know what qualifications are needed to operate a UAS

Registration Fee

The registration fee for this workshop is $50 per person for employees of government agencies and $75 per person for non-government agencies. Fee includes any class handouts and lunch. Registration can be paid online, or via invoice upon special request. Please contact cltap@frontrange.edu for questions.

Cancellation Policy

Please be considerate of those on the waiting list, cancel early if necessary. A full refund will be made if you cancel no later than 3 business days prior to the training day; otherwise, you will forfeit the registration fee.

Special Notes

In order to receive credit for this class, attendees must stay until the end when it is dismissed by the instructor and class certificates are awarded.

Instructors

Otrin, Jason

Jason Otrin is the owner of On Course Drones, a drone training and services company with experience working with law enforcement, state agencies and businesses ranging from individual realtors to Sikorsky/Lockheed Martin. He has a life-long passion for aviation and served in the US Army in Aviation and Intelligence. Jason is also a commercial pilot of manned-aircraft and a graduate of UConn and the UConn Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans. He is an active volunteer with charities that help veterans and people facing medical challenges and serves his community through the Civil Air Patrol.
