This course will offer insight into the fundamentals of the legal system, considering the application of state and federal laws, discussions of claims, discrimination, sexual harassment, lawsuit language, and more. Colorado case studies are used to illustrate effective procedures to avoid liability for governmental agencies. The class will demonstrate how good planning, record keeping, and procedures can reduce and agency's liability.

Required Online Capabilities

While we understand each agency will have different equipment and technology access, we strive to make our courses as interactive as possible. Thus, each participant or group in this course is required to have access to a camera (turned on) and microphone.

Online Registration Fee

The registration fee for this online workshop is $20 per person for employees of government agencies and $25 per person for non-government agencies. Registration can be paid online. Please contact cltap@frontrange.edu for questions.

Cancellation Policy

Please be considerate of those on the waiting list, cancel early if necessary. A full refund will be made if you cancel no later than 3 business days prior to the training day; otherwise, you will forfeit the registration fee.

Instructors

Hegarty, Matthew J.

Matthew J. Hegarty, Esq. is a Member of Hall & Evans, LLC and has been with the firm since 2012. Prior to joining Hall & Evans, LLC, Mr. Hegarty was a senior appellate law clerk to the Honorable David Furman at the Colorado Court of Appeals, from 2010 to 2012. Mr. Hegarty’s practice concentrates on trial and appellate litigation, chiefly the defense of matters implicating public entities and their employees under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act, of a wide variety of employment discrimination claims, and of ERISA and long-term disability claims. Mr. Hegarty’s clients include a wide variety of municipalities and public officials, small- to medium-sized businesses, and nonprofits throughout Colorado and other Rocky Mountain states. Mr. Hegarty graduated cum laude from Liberty University Law School in 2010 and summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Liberty University in 2007.
