You Ok? Suicide Prevention Campaign & Stress Management for the Workplace

12/11/2020 - 12/11/2020
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location: Online

The NLTAPA Professional Development Workgroup is partnering with the Iowa LTAP to co-sponsor a virtual self-care event.

The first hour will be discussing SUICIDE PREVENTION and the second hour will focus on STRESS MANAGEMENT – both topics that we can all benefit from learning more about. During this time of remote working, social distancing, and increased stressors, it’s especially important to pay attention to your mental health and those around you. If you are personally struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out to LTAP, your friends, or a professional.

1) You Ok?  Suicide Prevention Campaign for the Workplace.

Guest speaker: Dr. Diane S. Rohlman, PhD, Director, Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest at the University of Iowa.

Thirty-three percent of people say they know someone who has died by suicide and as a leader, you play an important role in creating a safe and open atmosphere where employees can feel comfortable talking about sensitive topics such as suicide and mental health. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. The suicide rate in the construction industry is 4 times higher than the national average. Learn to recognize the warning signs, start a conversation and make this topic a part of the safety conservation at your facility.

2) Stress Management Basics

Guest speaker: David Veneziano, Safety Circuit Rider, Iowa LTAP.

Stress Management Basics introduces the potential impacts of stress on health, ideas on coping strategies to eliminate those negative impacts on your life, and how you can change your mindset to recognize that not all stress is bad and that it can lead to positive health, performance and social effects.
