Program Topics

This training will cover all aspects of safety when using a chainsaw, as well as planning aspects, and felling and limbing techniques. This class will be primarily a class room session, followed by an outdoor demo!

All attendees are encouraged to bring their hard hats to this interactive chainsaw class. Nationally acclaimed instructor and chainsaw specialist, Tim Ard, will be teaching this class on behalf of Colorado LTAP. Learn how to plan jobs requiring a chainsaw; from recognizing hazards to determining escape routes. We will also go over the mechanics of chainsaws and the various checks you should complete before working with one. The focus of the class will be on safety; from personal protective equipment to felling and limbing techniques.

Roads Scholar I

This course is an elective in the Roads Scholar I course track.

Registration Fee

The registration fee for this workshop is $50 per person for employees of government agencies and $75 per person for non-government agencies. Fee includes class handout and lunch. Invoices will be sent upon receipt of registration form. Invoices can be paid by cash, check, money order, or credit card.

Cancellation Policy

Please be considerate of those on the waiting list, cancel early if necessary. A full refund will be made if you cancel no later than 3 business days prior to the training day; otherwise, you will forfeit the registration fee.

Special Notes

In order to receive credit for this class, attendees must stay until the end when it is dismissed by the instructor and class certificates are awarded.


Ard, Timothy

Tim Ard, president of Forest Applications, Inc., has worked in about all facets of the power equipment industry; the workbench, parts and whole goods distribution, technical services, wholesale and retail sales. For over ten of those years he has trained thousands of users in safe and productive use of chain saws and power equipment. Tim is also NFS certified, traveling nation-wide. His training experience is sought after for personal presentations to over 6,000 people per year plus appearances on lawn and garden television shows such as “The Victory Garden” and “BackYard America” and most recently, “Ask This Old House”.
