The concept of going about highway maintenance in a manner that is environmentally acceptable is of great importance to state and local agencies. This workshop explores how to perform our routine highway maintenance and achieve quality production while being environmentally responsible and compliant.

Topics Covered:
  • Pollution defined
  • General permits
  • Ground water protection
  • Surface water management
  • Typical highway maintenance operations
  • Work in and around streams
  • Spill prevention and response

This course is designed for supervisors and crew members performing maintenance work on the roadway with a desire to be environmental stewards. It is much easier and less expensive to prevent environmental mishaps than it is to clean them up.
