Roadway Safety & Work Zone Traffic Control

Program Topics

  • Overview of Part 1 and 6 of the MUTCD as it is applied to Work Zone Traffic Control
  • Problems created for the traveling public when traffic control is not set up correctly
  • Safety concerns of the employee and the organization when working within the Right-of-Way
  • Safety enhancements that can be used within the Roadway System

In the State of Colorado, the primary document used to develop and manage traffic control is the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). More specifically Part Six of this manual when dealing with construction or maintenance in a work zone. Traffic Control operates and looks very differently on paved versus unpaved roads, and on two-lane versus multilane roads, but your agency’s staff is required to setup the traffic control on each of these types of roads. This program will provide some insight into the development of a Traffic Control Plan and setting up of that traffic control.

This program will also examine some of the Safety features that can be used to enhance the safety of the roadway for the traveling public (i.e. Rumble strips and stripes, the Safety Edge, and enhanced curve delineation).

This course will benefit all employees, foremen and supervisors.
